Is mail service usually slower over the weekend than during the week day?

why, and how this depends?



if you send a letter with a 1st class stamp in the mail...on friday..how likely is it to arrive in same city on SATURDAY? or will most likely not arrive till monday,,since it is friday night sorting and not a regular week day night?

It takes the same time as it does during the week but never delivered the following day - here in Glasgow it takes up to 4 days for 1st class mail. The only way it will arrive the following day is if it is sent special delivery.Is mail service usually slower over the weekend than during the week day?
When we live in an age were there is one delivery a day and that arrives at 2,30 in the afternoon and its looked upon as OK , Who knows what is a normal delivery, All I can say is how dare the postal service award big bonus's for a service which is unacceptable. When are we going to get some competition with the postal service known as royal mail which is a disgrace to its label.
