I would go for the whole works and upgrade the browser

Once you've done that, go to your mail page and click on Options then click on Switch back to Classic Mail,

If you have a free Yahoo account, you have two choices for a mail version. The new one, All New Yahoo Mail does not work well on old, slow computers, those older ones have no problems with the older Yahoo Classic mail.
To change mail versions is easy.
If you have the new version of Yahoo Mail, click on the 'classic mail' link at top left of mail screen.
If you have Yahoo classic, click on the 'All new mail' link at top left of mail screen.
The only other upgrade possible is to go to the premium Yahoo Mail Plus, which you pay for by monthly fee.
Now, as far as your operating system on your computer goes, you can upgrade that, too, but it will cost you the money for the upgrade CD, and you need to know before whether your computer has the required specifications needed for the version you are looking at.
