How do I send mail using the postal service?

I used to correspond with a cousin via snail mail, but I always gave the letter to my parents. Now I want to send a card to someone else, but I don't want to ask my parents, and I don't know how the postal service works, besides that I need an envelope, address and a stamp (but i don't know where to get one). And then what?

1. get your card

2. get an envelope (you can buy a box of these in like grocery stores like eckered or cvs or duane reade or something)

3. buy your stamp at the post office

you can do this by going to one of those machines that sell stamps (i think you put your $ in, then punch it the #, and then you get your stamp(s) or something)

i think you can also do this by going on-line and buying it from the people behind the counter/the wall, but i wouldn't, b/c this might take longer. if you need help, just ask someone at the post office, or see if anyone is buying their own stamps, and look at how they buy stamps, ask them, or read the instructions yourself that is on the machine itself (or ask a post office person if you really need help)

4. get your cousin's address if you don't know it

5. know your own address

6. write your name; underneath that, the first half of your address, underneath THAT, the 2nd half of your address ALL ON THE upper left hand corner of your envelope

7. do the same procedure for your cousin's address (name, 1st half of address, 2nd half of address) HOWEVER you do somewhere else

look at your envelope, imagine an imaginary line going down the middle; start your cousin's name to the right of the imaginary line, near the middle (imagine a 2nd imaginary line going across the envelope's horizontal middle--your cousin's name should be around the corner of where the two lines intersect like an "L'

8. if you bought a stamp that's not like the sticker-kind, you probably have the one that you have to put water on and then stick onto your envelope. if you don't want to do that, just use good-sticking glue or something; stick your stamp onto the upper right hand corner of your envelope.

okay, just throw your envelope (if you just wrote like a letter or something, you can just fold it up and put it in a 3x5 envelope or something, but you can use other sizes, if you want) into a mailbox (blue ones) found near the outside of post offices (you can see some in the streets too, but you have to be able to open them with your hand---there's a handle for opening the mailbox)

or, you can go on line in the post office and tell the guy behind the wall you want to mail the letter and he'll just take it from you or something

okay, hoped this has helped

goodbye!
Go to the drug store, or Safeway, or a dollar store. You can buy a card there, and cards come complete with envelopes. Sign your card, address your envelope, then purchase a stamp. You can either go to the post office, or back to the drug store, Safeway or wherever (lots of places sell stamps) put the stamp on the envelope and put your envelope in a mail box. That's all there is to it.How do I send mail using the postal service?
You go to a place called the POST OFFICE and buy stamps- they cost 41 cents a piece now. While you are there you put the stamp on the upper right corner edge of the letter and drop it in a slot at the post office.
Snail Mail 101! So you've got the envelope, the address, and the stamp part down. Heres what you do: Stick your address in the upper left hand corner. Stick your parents address in the middle of the envelope. Place the stamp in the upper right hand corner. You can buy a stamp when you go to the post office to mail the letter. They usually have a machine where you can buy just one (bring change!) A stamp costs $.41 (its not free like email) Stick it in the drop box and your set!How do I send mail using the postal service?
the post office sells selfstamped envelopes. just put the address and return address on it,and drop it in the box.
